1. Definite articles : le, la, l?, les

Read the following sentences
Le is used when referring to a noun in the masculine form.
La is used when referring to a noun in the feminine form.
Les is used when referring to masculine or feminine nouns in the plural form.
L? is used for masculine or feminine singular forms which begin with a vowel.

2. The difference between indefinite and definite articles:

Un/ une/des are indefinite articles. They refer to a person or a thing in a general sense. Le/la/l?/les are definite articles. They refer to a particular person or thing thereby they have a specific sense.

3. Habiter + cities and countries:

A Paris,à Chennai, à Tokyo à is used for cities, towns, villages
En Suisse, en France, en Angleterre En Iran, en Afghanistan en is used for : i. feminine countries (which end most of the time in e) ii.masculine countries whose names begin with a vowel
Au Canada,au Japon,au Brésil au is used for masculine countries whose names begin with a consonant
Aux Philippines, aux Antilles aux is used for countries that are plural

4. The various forms of ?Quel?

In these examples, you will note that ?quel? has different forms depending on the number and the gender of the noun following it.

5. The verb ?Avoir? (to have)

The verb AVOIR is an irregular verb. So its conjugation is unique.

*Note that in the sentences ?Olivier a 22 ans? and ?Tara a 21 ans?, avoir is used in French to express the age of a person / thing whereas in English you would use the verb ?to be?, i.e., Olivier is 22 years old.
